The Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2011 took place on Thursday 19th May 2011 at the Hilton, Park Lane. These prestigious awards have been co-founded by Pinky Lilani OBE and have a very special patron, Cherie Blair. The awards were conceived to celebrate the often unsung Asian heroines of British life. Such women make a huge contribution in fields as diverse as business, entrepreneurship and social and humanitarian work and these awards, are their moment in the spotlight.
The ceremony, which was compered by BBC presenter Riz Lateef, was attended by the Home Secretary Theresa May, The Rt Hon Tessa Jowell, James Caan - entrepreneur and former TV ‘Dragon’, ITV newsreader Mary Nightingale, wife of deputy prime minister Miriam Clegg and HRH Princess Badiya bint El Hassan of Jordan.
These awards were split into nine categories and Shezmin Madhani won the Social and Humanitarian Award for her commitment to Nia Children's Foundation.
